Mass Teen Found Guilty in Texting-While-Driving Fatality

Comments Off

Today I read about a teen ager who was convicted of causing a fatal traffic accident while texting and driving in 2001. He killed the driver of another car, a 55 year old man and seriously injured his passenger. They found he had sent 193 messages that day and a few of them within a minute of the crash followed by dozens right after the accident.

While the temptation is there to just read the message or write a quick reply, you are 23 times more likely to get into an accident if you texting while driving. If you are texting while driving, the consequences can be dire, as they were with the innocent 55 year old who was killed by the teen ager in Massachusetts.

Recognizing the epidemic of texting and driving, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration has released a website that has facts, summaries of state laws, and how you can get involved in addressing this problem. You can go to their website at: http://www.distraction.gov
